Play Great Southwest Trivia
We're starting a new game here shortly....formally called, "Southwestern Illinois Trivia". It will relate to the unique things about these several counties, especially the history, geography and of course, people. It will mesh with a section in the right menu under "SW ILLINOIS" called "Trivia" in fact, where most of the answers could be found, (with a little work.) And a little contest will be held every 2 weeks, and announced in "Home Actions", our newsletter with a 2-week publishing interval.
The second question, published April 2nd, 2012:
What connection did the Kaskaskia community have with Edwardsville, 50 miles to the north and now one of our major communities?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first question published March 19, 2012:
What is the name of the Illinois town that lies west of the Mississippi River?
The answer: Kaskaskia....still part of Randolph County. See details under (right menu, all sites) Family Fun/Calendar/October, (and google "Randolph County Illinois" for several websites that include it.) It's all the more fascinating because Kaskaskia was the first capitol of Illinois, but for only a couple of years. This happened in 1881, when a flooded Mississippi took over the channel of the Kaskaskia River, shortening it 4 or 5 miles. It caused an awful ruckus at the time because Missouri wanted to claim the new land, but Illinois won. The winner: a previous client living in Waterloo, not too far away from Kaskaskia, who prefers not having her name listed.
So we will have a place for responses to be made here, along with the right answers and the name of the winner. Winners will receive a $ 25.00 gift certificate to any of several popular restaurants. More detail will be announced shortly, with the change of format on this page.
